23 Jan - Pauly Shore believes he is doing the right thing by playing fitness guru Richard Simmons despite the latter distancing himself from the biopic.

Speaking to Variety at the Sundance Film Festival, Shore, whose resemblance to Simmons has helped him acquired two projects about the fitness icon, stated that the movie he is making is all about love, and that he would continue with it with or without Simmons' blessing.

"It's never been vindictive. I'm not Borat. I'm not 'let's make fun of someone.' It's the opposite. At this point, it's an unauthorised biopic and they're made every day. Yes, I want him to put his pixie dust on this and say, 'Go for it, Pauly.' It's Richard being Richard. It's sensitive," he said.

Shore continued, "We want him to be left alone and we don't want to bug him. We want to pay homage to him and kiss his feet and say he's done beautiful stuff. Who's going to play Richard Simmons? Leonardo DiCaprio is not going to play Richard Simmons. I look like him."

The actor added that he wants the younger generation to know who Simmons is, which is why his story needs to be told.

Simmons previously released a statement following news of a biopic about him starring the Pauly Shore. Sharing his views on Facebook, Simmons said that he had never given his permission for the movie and urged the public not to believe everything they read.

"I no longer have a manager, and I no longer have a publicist. I just try to live a quiet life and be peaceful. Thank you for all your love and support," he added.
