22 Feb – British filmmaker Sam Mendes is set to helm four theatrical films about the legendary band, The Beatles. As reported on THR, the serial project will have the director presenting stories of the band from the perspectives of each of the Fab Four members (Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon, George Harrison) and/or the people around them. It was reported that Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison have all granted permission and music rights for the four films. "I'm honoured to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies," said Mendes in a statement.
The four films, to be produced by Sony Pictures and Mendes' Neal Street Productions, will be released in cinemas sometime in 2027. The project reportedly has been long in development at Sony, with the goal to have each member's view about the band and its eventual breakup in 1970. Prior to the Mendes project, Ron Howard helmed "The Beatles: Eight Days a Week - The Touring Years" for Hulu, while Peter Jackson directed a three-part documentary called "The Beatles: Get Back".
