"A Place Called Silence" has amassed RMB 1.29 billion in China
8 Aug - Malaysian director Sam Quah is making bank in China, after it was reported that his feature length film, "A Place Called Silence" has amassed RMB 1.29 billion (RM 806 million) at the Chinese box office.

The crime-thriller movie has peaked at the country's box office charts since it premiered on 3 July, and quickly made RMB 110 million in just three days after that.

The film, which was inspired by a news story of a mother's relentless effort in locating her tragically murdered daughter, explores the topic of campus bullying.

However, it is noted that the film was actually a remake of his own 2022 film, and that Sam recast the film with rumoured girlfriend Janine Chang in the lead. Other cast members include Eric Wang and Francis Ng.

The movie is currently showing in Malaysian cinemas and will be opening in Singapore on 15 August.
