20 Jun - It was revealed that the Star Wars parody film "Spaceballs" will finally have a sequel, 30-plus years since it was released in theatres.

THR reported that original director and producer Mel Brooks is producing the project, with Josh Gad to also star in the movie. Gad is also co-writing the script alongside Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez of "Pokemon Detective Pikachu" fame.


Meanwhile, the movie will be helmed by Josh Greenbaum ("Strays").

The original movie, released in 1987, stars Bill Pullman as a heroic mercenary Lone Starr (a parody of Han Solo) as he rescues Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) of Druidia and her droid, Dot Matrix (Lorene Yarnell, voiced by Joan Rivers), from being captured by the Spaceballs, led by President Skroob (Mel Brooks), who wants to use Vespa as ransom to obtain Druidia's air for their own planet.

Other stars include Rick Moranis as Lord Dark Helmet (a parody of Darth Vader), John Candy as Barg (a parody of Chewbacca), and George Wyner as Colonel Sandurz, a character that is a parody of Grand Moff Tarkin and whose name is referencing KFC's Colonel Sanders.
