22 Oct - Following the success of "Vettaiyan", TJ Gnanavel revealed that he is interested to do another movie, though a prequel rather than a sequel.

The director shared as much during a media interaction, saying that he would like to explore the back stories of several key characters, especially Athiyan, the character played by Rajinikanth in the movie.

"I'm more interested in exploring a prequel. Vettaiyan: The Hunter could delve into Athiyan's journey, revealing how he became an encounter specialist, Fahadh Faasil's transformation into a thief and police informant, and other aspects of the story's backstory," he said.

TJ stated that he has always been interested in the subject of encounter killing, which is an extrajudicial killing by police or the armed forces in South Asia, supposedly in self-defense when they encounter suspected gangsters or terrorists.

"Encounter killings have always affected me when I read about them in the news," he said. "This film challenges whether these encounters are justified or fabricated, revealing what seems straightforward often has deeper issues."

He added that the prequel could delve into the complexities of their lives before the events of the main story and that he aimed to highlight the choices characters make and how these decisions shape their destinies.
