24 Oct - Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has been diagnosed with cancer.

Sources close to the former Miramax owner said that Weinstein has chronic myeloid leukemia, a form of a bone marrow cancer, and that he is now undergoing treatment at the prison island of Rikers.

The news came just as Weinstein awaits a new trial in New York after his 2020 convictions for rape and sexual assault were thrown out by an appeals court.

Despite the result, Weinstein has not been released from prison, as he is also serving 16 years of prison sentence in Los Angeles for rape and sexual assault, and being prosecuted over newer allegations of an assault that occurred in Manhattan in 2006.

When asked about the diagnoses, Weinstein's legal healthcare rep Craig Rothfeld said, "It is both troubling and unacceptable that such private and confidential health matters have become a subject of public discourse. Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein's privacy, we will offer no further comment."

The producer was charged and arrested for rape in May 2018 following a tell-all in a New York Times article published in 2017, further sparking the #MeToo movement.
