28 Jan - Ajith Kumar was announced as one of the recipients of the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in India.

Following the announcement on 25 January, the "Vidaamuyarchi" star shared a thank-you note via his publicist that read, "I am deeply humbled and honoured to receive the esteemed Padma Award by the President of India. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Honourable President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu and the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi for this prestigious honour."


"It is a privilege to be recognised at such a level, and I am truly grateful for this generous acknowledgement of my contributions to our nation."

He also thanked his mother Mohini, wife Shalini and his two kids Anoushka and Aadvik for being his pillars of support, while wishing that his late father P Subramaniam was alive to see him getting the recognition. At the same time, he also thanked his fans and supporters for their unwavering love and support.

"I am also grateful for the kind support, over the years, of the motor racing fraternity and the sports pistol and rifle shooting community. I thank the Madras Motor Sports Club (MMSC), the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), the National Rifle Association of India, and the Chennai Rifle Club for their encouragement of sports and the community of sportspeople," he added.

On the other hand, his new movie "Vidaamuyarchi" is set to hit theatres on 6 February.

The Padma Bhushan award is given for "distinguished service of a high order", without distinction of race, occupation, position, or sex and is announced every year on India's Republic Day.

Other individuals from the field of Arts that were honoured at the same time is filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor as well as actress and Bharatanatyam dancer Shobana.
