9 Jul - Charlize Theron recently expressed her vexation over the double standard in Hollywood when it comes to male and female action movie stars.

The actress, who herself has been leading a variety of action flicks, said that studios often give male actors more opportunities when it comes to action movies compared to their female counterparts.

"Action films with female leads don't get greenlit as much as the ones with male leads. I think the thing that always frustrates me is the fact that guys will get a free ride," she said.

Theron said that female action stars don't necessarily get a chance again when their movie didn't become a hit compared to male action stars, who could still get more offers despite bombing at the box office.

"With this, we were very aware that eyes were on us. It's not a risk that studios want to take, but they'll take it many times on the same guy who might have a string of action movies that did not do so well," she said.

Theron, who has been doing action movies like "Aeon Flux" and "Mad Max: Fury Road", is currently the star of the Netflix sequel of her hit film, "The Old Guard".

Speaking of the action scenes in the movie, Theron said she did her own stunts including hanging off a flying helicopter.

"We did it towards the end, and I was like, 'Oh, my God, if I pull this off, I'm going to be okay with never doing a stunt again,'" Theron said. "That didn't last long, but it was intricate. It was psychological. The first two weeks of it was sitting down with the pilot and building trust. It was slow moves. But by the end, I was hanging off a helicopter, so who cares?"
