12 Dec - It was revealed that Sony has green-lighted the third film in the new "28 Years Later" trilogy, just as the second film receives positive reaction ahead of its release.

The third movie, which will be helmed by Danny Boyle, will reportedly have Cillian Murphy returning to reprise his role as Jim from the original "28 Days Later".

It is noted that Murphy executive produced "28 Years Later," which was released back in June. The movie, which made USD 151.3 million from a USD 60 million budget, is the first of three films under the new trilogy.

Murphy did not appear in the first film of the new trilogy but is set to return in the second film, helmed by Nia DaCosta of "The Marvels" fame, which is set to be released in January next year.

Titled "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple," the second project was shot back-to-back with the Boyle movie, and continues the story where it left off, with the young Spike being rescued from a hoard of zombies by a group of people led by a man called Sir Jimmy Crystal who bears an inverted cross.

Murphy originally starred in the 2002 film "28 Days Later" as Jim, which launched the franchise. He did not appear in the 2007 sequel "28 Weeks Later."
