9 May - Deepika Padukone recently admitted that it took her and husband Ranveer Singh two months to finally settled on the name Dua for their first daughter.

The actress, who sat down with Marie Claire recently to open up about motherhood, said that she and husband Ranveer Singh were in no rush to name their daughter, and felt that it was more important for them to hold the baby in their arms and see her personality developing before finding the right name.


Dua, who was born in September 2024, only got her name in November, which was taken from the Arabic word that means prayer/supplication.

"It felt like a beautiful summary of what she means to us and why she means what she means to us," said Deepika, who said she turned to poetry and music for inspiration.

Despite being a big star herself, the actress said that she wants Dua to have the same kind of freedom she had as a child.

"I don't ever remember my father sitting me down and saying, 'Hey, I'm a professional badminton player and I'm a celebrity.' I remember it being he was a father first and everything that we got to know of him was based on just our own curiosity and the fact that everything was just so normal. It was in fact only much later on in our lives where we found out that our father was a celebrity - when people approached him for autographs," she said, adding that she doesn't want her daughter to be burdened with her and Ranveer's expectations.

In the same interview, Deepika admitted that her pregnancy was tough, but that she was lucky to have the people around her.

"Everyone around me has been really kind and nice enough to sort of check on me... I've been very lucky to also have that support system that's more than happy and willing to step in whenever I need it," she added.
