23 Jun - Despite a lot of calls for studios to tell original stories, the recent opening number for Pixar's "Elio" compared to the live-action remake of "How to Train Your Dragon" may make it difficult for anyone to make a case for that particular subject.

The animated feature, which follows an eleven-year-old boy named Elio Solís who accidentally becomes the intergalactic ambassador of Earth after being beamed up by aliens, made only USD 21 million at US box office after three days.

The film was originally expected to make USD 30 million in the US. This box office number makes it the worst three-day opening since 2023's "Elemental" (USD 29.6 million).

"How to Train Your Dragon" continues to dominate the No. 1 spot at the US box office
On the other hand, "How to Train Your Dragon" has accumulated another USD 37 million in the US, with a worldwide total of USD 358.2 million in its second week.

Another live-action remake, "Lilo & Stitch" on the other hand, has now made USD 910 million at the box office.

"Lilo & Stitch" is nearing USD 1 billion at the global box office
