18 Jul – Who would have guessed that it would be Hermione that will be the first Hogwarts alum to be banned from driving? Emma Watson, most known as one of the stars of "Harry Potter", has been prohibited from driving for six months, after she was caught driving her blue Audi at 38mph in a 30mph zone in Oxford in July last year. According to the High Wycombe Magistrates' Court on 16 July, the actress already had nine points on her licence prior to the speeding incident, and that she will also have to pay a total of GBP 1044 (approx. USD 1400) in fine.
Watson did not attend the 16 July hearing and could not be reached for comments. Her lawyer, Mark Haslam told the court, "She is in a position to pay the fine." It is noted that Watson is not the only "Harry Potter" alum that has had trouble with the traffic authority. Zoe Wanamaker, who played Madame Hooch in the first film was also fined for speeding on the same day. She was caught speeding in a 40mph zone in August last year. Watson is currently a postgraduate student, pursuing a Master's degree in Creative Writing at the University of Oxford since 2023.
