USD 500 million still isn't enough to turn "The Fantastic Four" into profit
3 Sep - "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" has finally crossed the USD 500 million mark at the box office, but it is no celebration from both Disney and Marvel.

The film, which has entered its sixth week in cinemas, has now grossed USD 265.8 million in the US and USD 240.5 million overseas, bringing a global cume of approximately USD 506 million.

However, despite the huge number, the movie has not registered a profit for the studios, seeing that it was made on a budget of USD 200 million which sources said has ballooned closer to USD 350 million including marketing.

The film needed to make USD 875 million to break even.

"Thunderbolts*" was critically praised but didn't get as much love in ticket sales
Marvel has been experiencing a downturn in box office numbers for the past year, with "Captain America: Brave New World" making USD 415.1 million while "Thunderbolts*" only making USD 382.4 million.

The studio has been banking in on "The Fantastic Four" to make a profit, but the film suffered a steep box office drop from its second weekend onwards.
