24 Apr - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had the public scratching their heads by announcing that their voters have to watch all the nominated films before voting for the winners.

The Oscars governing body recently announced a series of measures on 21 April, including a requirement of all members to now watch all nominated films in each category to be eligible to vote in the final round for the Oscars.

NPR reported that it was a requirement for nominations in specialty categories, like documentary feature and international feature, but that members voting in all other categories have been on the honour system, which meant that they are encouraged, but not required, to watch all the nominated films.

The public went wild after finding out this particular fact, as they took to social media to slam members of the Academy Awards for not doing the bare minimum.

"Can't believe they only just now required Oscar members to watch the movies before voting. What were they voting based on before?" one netizen asked.

"Imagine implementing such a rule 97 years into the existence of the award," another posted.

Some couldn't help but laugh at this fact, with an X user saying, "That's explains everything about Emilia Perez's Oscar."

"THEY WEREN'T DOING THAT BEFORE? This explains why movies like The Color Purple, What's Love Got to Do With It, and Malcolm X were snubbed. These voters were NOT watching black films?" said another.
