New Line in talks for "Weapons" prequel?


"Weapons" success sparks prequel interest
14 Aug - With the movie now winning both audiences and critics alike, it was reported that New Line is now in early talks for a prequel for Zach Cregger's horror-mystery, "Weapons".

Sources claimed that the studio has been showing interest in another project related to the title following its success, amassing USD 42 million at the opening weekend box office, putting the film at number one in the movie chart.

According to THR, Cregger has an idea of exploring the character of Aunt Gladys from the movie, the mysterious orange-haired elderly woman who suddenly arrives in town.

It was reported that the director actually had a chapter focusing on the character, played by Amy Madigan, but ultimately pulled that section out from the script for length purposes.

No definite confirmation as to whether there will be such a project for now. Cregger is currently prepping up for his new project with Sony Pictures, the reboot of "Resident Evil". The film is scheduled for September 2026 release.
