16 May - Rihanna is set to drop a new song, not for her new album but for the upcoming "Smurfs" animated movie.

The singer shared the good news on social media with a trailer of the animated feature, which she also lent her voice to (for the character Smurfette), and which featured a snippet of the song.

She posted, "New #SmurfsMovie trailer featuring "Friend Of Mine" from the Smurfs soundtrack out friday. Pre-save now."

The song, "Friend of Mine", will be released on 16 May, while the movie will hit theatres on 17 July.

The film, which is directed by Chris Miller, focuses on the Smurfs as they embark on an adventure to save Papa Smurf after he was kidnapped by wizards. Other voice cast members include John Goodman, James Corden, Nick Offerman and Sandra Oh.

It will be the first Smurfs movie since the 2017's "Smurfs: The Lost Village".

Rihanna's last song was the 2022's "Lift Me Up", which is the soundtrack to the Marvel film, "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever".
