Sam Worthington: "Avatar" may end with third film

4 Dec - Sam Worthington is in agreement with "Avatar: Fire and Ash" director James Cameron; that it is possible for them to stop at movie number three.

Earlier, Cameron spoke about the issue of sequels, and how fewer people are now going to the theatres compared to when he made the first "Avatar" in 2009, which meant that it would be difficult for the third film to reach the same height.

"Each film costs "one metric f***-ton of money, which means we have to make two metric f***-tons of money to make a profit. I have no doubt in my mind that this movie will make money; the question is does it make enough money to do it again?" he said, adding that would be willing to walk away if it didn't.

When asked about it at the premiere of the new movie, Worthington, who plays the franchise lead Jack Sully, stated, "I think Jim's right; you're after a movie that your hope is that it connects, and it's very nerve-racking when you hand a movie over. We'll see."

"Jake Sully said at the end of Avatar 2, 'This is where we make our stand,' so I think we know what's coming. To me, this was always the final battle, the final showdown," he added.

It is noted that Cameron has already written the script for movies four and five, with several scenes for the fourth movie already shot while they were working on the second film, "The Way of Water".

"Avatar" remains the highest grossing movie of all time with USD 2.9 billion, followed by "Avatar: The Way of Water" in third place with USD 2.3 billion.
