30 Sep - The creator of the AI actress Tilly Norwood has recently released a statement denying that she is a replacement of human being following backlash from filmmakers and the public alike.

In a statement released by Eline Van de Velden, the founder of Particle 6 and Xicoia, the latter dubbed "the world's first artificial intelligence talent studio", she said that Tilly Norwood is a piece of art that sparks conversation.

"I see Al not as a replacement for people, but as a new tool - a new paintbrush. Just as animation, puppetry, or CGI opened fresh possibilities without taking away from live acting, Al offers another way to imagine and build stories. I'm an actor myself, and nothing - certainly not an Al character - can take away the craft or joy of human performance," she expressed.

"Creating Tilly has been, for me, an act of imagination and craftsmanship, not unlike drawing a character, writing a role or shaping a performance. It takes time, skill, and iteration to bring such a character to life. She represents experimentation, not substitution. Much of my work has always been about holding up a mirror to society through satire, and this is no different."

Van der Velden also said that Al characters should be judged as part of their own genre, on their own merits, rather than compared directly with human actors.

"I hope we can welcome Al as part of the wider artistic family: one more way to express ourselves, alongside theatre, film, painting, music, and countless others. When we celebrate all forms of creativity, we open doors to new voices, new stories, and new ways of connecting with each other."

The statement was also released on Tilly Norwood's social media accounts, which had since sparked another form of backlash.

One commenter stated, "Comparing an AI character to animation or puppetry misses the mark. No one auditions against a cartoon or a CGI dragon. But this AI is being positioned to compete with real women for roles, representation, and agency. That's not just a new "tool"- it's a replacement. Art should expand opportunity, not erase it."
