9 Jan - Fans are left scratching their heads when it was reported that Will Smith is not joining the new "Matrix" project to be helmed by Drew Goddard.

Insiders revealed that there has been no talks of the actor playing a role in the upcoming project by the "World War Z" director, despite Smith's recent Instagram post that seemed to be teasing like such a thing will happen.

It was back on 6 January that the actor made a cryptic post on Instagram about the fact that he turned down the Wachowskis' offer to play Neo in "The Matrix" to do "Wild Wild West" that eventually bombed at the box office.

The post read, "He chose Wild Wild West, believing it was a better fit for him at the time. But the question remains: What would The Matrix have been like with Will Smith as Neo? Wake up, Will... The Matrix has you..."

It sparked speculations that Smith will be a part of the new "Matrix" project.

The role instead went to Keanu Reeves, whose defining performance opened doors for him to more blockbuster films.
