15 Dec - "Zootopia 2" has now surpassed the USD 1 billion mark, making it the fastest animated movie to do so.

The movie, which was released on 26 November, topped the US chart with another USD 6.2 million, tallying the movie to USD 232.7 million in North America.

Adding it to the USD 753.4 million it made internationally, the film has now made USD 1.08 billion. And that feat was reached in just 17 days of screening.

"This milestone means the world to us, because more than anything, it means audiences are coming to theatres for a shared experience of watching this movie on the big screen, everyone together, from all walks of life around the world - and that is a Zootopia dream come true," Jared Bush, chief creative officer at Walt Disney Animation Studios, wrote in a statement on 12 December.

It is noted that the movie is still far away from surpassing China's "Ne Zha 2," which made USD 2.2 billion at the global box office, making it the highest grossing animated movie of all time.

"Ne Zha 2" still remains undefeated with USD 2.2 billion
