2 Oct - Adoor Gopalakrishnan rarely works with the same actor twice, except, he said, the National Award Best Actor winner, Mammootty.

The veteran filmmaker, who recently chaired a session titled "Master's touch: The transforming power of cinema" at the India Today Conclave South in Kochi, said that Mammootty is the exception to the rule when it comes to his movies, as his new movie "Padayaatra" marks his fourth collaboration with the actor.

"I have made few films, only 13, including Padayaatra. I don't usually repeat actors in my films. Mammootty is the only exception - this is our fourth one. He's an exception in every way," Adoor said.

In addition to starring in the movie, the Malayalam star, who has also starred in Adoor's "Anantaram," "Mathilukal," and "Vidheyan," is also producing it, he said.

"When he found out I was making a film, he said he'd like to produce the film. I was very happy. He told me, 'whatever you want, you ask me, it'll be given'. He has a role that's perfect for him. I cannot think of anyone else," he said.

Singing praises of Mammootty, Adoor said that the actor had always understood the financial constraints of his films, and had never asked for a higher price even when he was a big star.

"He knew he'd be paid, but according to the budget only," he said.
