Alia Bhatt to tackle marriage complexities in upcoming film

6 Feb - It looks like 2026 will be a busy year for Alia Bhatt, as it was revealed that the actress will be playing the lead in "Housewife," a film by Abhishek Pathak of "Drishyam" fame.

The actress reportedly will play a married woman, with the story revolving around issues within domestic life, and will necessitate a layered, detailed performance. The role marks another opportunity for Alia to showcase her dramatic range in exploring the complexities of marriage and domesticity.

It was also revealed that Rajkummar Rao is also in talks to play the male lead in the movie, which if it comes to fruition, would spark a new onscreen partnership between the two acclaimed actors. This would be their first collaboration together on screen.

In addition to starring in the movie, Alia will also be co-producing the project through her Eternal Sunshine Productions banner, further cementing her role as not just an actress but a creative force behind the camera.

Filming is scheduled to begin in either August or September this year.

It is noted that Alia is already juggling multiple high-profile projects. She is part of "Alpha," the first film in the YRF spy universe that has a female lead. She is also starring in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's epic "Love & War" alongside husband Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, reuniting with the visionary filmmaker after their collaboration on "Gangubai Kathiawadi."
