Bill Cosby found guilty in sexual assault case
25 Mar - Bill Cosby has been ordered to pay USD 59 million, after the court found him guilty of sexually assaulting a woman working as a waitress in 1972.

Donna Motsinger, the plaintiff in question, filed a lawsuit in 2023, alleging that the actor-comedian drugged and raped her after bringing her to his comedy show in San Carlos, California in the aforementioned year.

Motsinger said that Cosby offered her a glass of wine in his limo and that she began to get sick when she got to his dressing room. She later awoke in her own home in just her underwear.

She was working at the Trident in Sausalito at the time, where Cosby frequented while recording a stand-up album at a nearby location.

The jury awarded Motsinger USD 19.25 million in compensatory damages, and then added another USD 40 million in punitive damages.

"This verdict is not just about me. It's about finally being heard and holding Mr. Cosby accountable," Motsinger said in a statement. "I have carried the weight of what happened to me for more than 50 years. It never goes away. Today, a jury saw the truth and held him accountable. That means everything. I hope this gives strength to other survivors who are still waiting for their moment to be heard."

Meanwhile, Cosby's attorney, Jennifer Bonjean stated that they would be appealing the verdict.
