19 Jan - Another original voice cast is heading to the live-action remake, as Cate Blanchett is confirmed for the role of Valka.

The actress, who voiced the Viking warrior in the second "How to Train Your Dragon" animated feature in 2014, will reprise the role in Universal Pictures' live-action version of the movie.

The character is the long-lost mother of the protagonist Hiccup and wife of Viking leader Stoick the Vast (voiced by Gerard Butler). It is noted that Butler reprised his role as Stoick in the 2025 live-action version of the first movie.

The first live-action flick made USD 636 million globally when it was released in June last year. The movie stars Mason Thames, Nico Parker, Gerard Butler, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James and Harry Trevaldwyn among others.

To be helmed by Dean DeBlois again, the movie is set for release in June 2027.
