Denis Villeneuve's return to "Dune: Part Three" was quicker than he thought
19 Mar - Denis Villeneuve recently admitted that he actually did not plan to helm the third film in the "Dune" franchise so soon following the release of the sequel in 2024.

The filmmaker, who spoke at the launching of "Dune: Part Three" trailer held at AMC Century City on 16 March, said that he told his crew that he is taking a break and would want to make a different film first to clear his mind.

"I went back home and I kept waking in the middle of the night with those images. I was supposed to do another movie," he said.

However, Villeneuve said that the success and reception of fans towards the second film truly surprised him, and that the images of "Dune: Part 3" still kept coming back, prompting him to get to work straight away.

The director also said that the third film will be different in terms of its subgenre.

"If the first movie was contemplation, a boy exploring a new world, and the second one is a war movie, this one is a thriller. It is action-packed and tense. More muscular", he said. "We see Paul dealing with the consequences of having too much power."

The movie will be released in December 2026.
