16 Jun - Steven Spielberg's new sci-fi adventure, "Disclosure Day" has opened to number one at the US box office.

The movie has accumulated USD 44 million in its home country, above the estimated USD 35 million but still below the expected number it should make in an opening for a big budget movie.

Meanwhile, it has generated USD 48.9 million internationally from 73 markets, bringing a global start of USD 92.9 million.

It is noted that the film was made with a USD 115 million budget sans the USD 80 million cost for marketing. Analysts stated that the film needs to make around USD 300 million globally for it to be considered profitable.

However, Spielberg is no stranger to making box office films, with his previous movie, "Ready Player One" making USD 607 million worldwide. Spielberg himself has a staying power internationally, with audiences used to his classic hits like "Indiana Jones," "ET," and "Jaws" flocking the cinemas on his name alone.

"Disclosure Day" stars Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor as a meteorologist and a cybersecurity expert, who find themselves at the centre of a movement to expose the government's cover-up of extraterrestrial secrets.
