5 Feb - Chinese New Year is coming and it looks like the Year of the Horse is also turning into a year of Draco Malfoy.

The "Harry Potter" character is suddenly popping everywhere, with mainland netizens turning it into an unlikely decoration for the celebration this year. Social media platforms including Douyin, Weibo and REDNOTE are now filled with images of actor Tom Felton as the character and his signature smirk.

As to why this is occurring, it was revealed that it has to do with the spelling of Malfoy's Chinese name, Maerfu, which includes the character "Ma" for horse and the character "Fu", meaning good fortune.

Chinese netizens found the coincidence both funny and fitting for the occasion, which is why Malfoy has now become a part of their CNY decorations.

Meanwhile, others are also expressing amusement with the whole thing, with one netizen noting that it had been Malfoy's year for the past couple of years, what with his first name Draco being Dragon (The Year of Dragon, 2023) and last year's zodiac being the Year of Snake, which is also the animal representing Malfoy's Hogwarts' house, Slytherin.
