3 Aug - Despite being the son of the Tamil superstar-turned-Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Jason Sanjay stated that he has been taught early on to build his own identity as a filmmaker.

Ahead of his directorial debut, "Sigma," Jason, who spoke candidly about his life and career, admitted that the "Jana Nayagan" actor has always encouraged him to carve out his own path.

"He wanted me to build my own identity and name. What worked best for both of us was that we were thinking along the same lines. We were on the same page," he said.

Jason stated that while Vijay helped him as a father, when it comes to his career, the politician motivated him to learn things on his own and gain ground-level experience.

"He never spoon-fed me. I am really thankful to him, my mum and my entire family," he added.

As to rumours surrounding his family, as well as the controversy regarding his parents' relationship, the filmmaker stated, "Looking at the various comments, I think every comment serves a different purpose. Some people want to encourage me, while others start criticising our personalities and family. They make assumptions about us. There is a lot of love, legacy and responsibility because of my family."
