27 Jul - Jim Carrey has recently released a statement, mourning the loss of director Chuck Russell, who helmed one of his biggest hit movies, "The Mask".

The statement, which was shared with the media following news of Russell's passing, read, "I consider it a privilege to have worked with Chuck Russell, who during the shooting of The Mask, created an ebullient, childlike atmosphere of wonder and camaraderie on his set. The entire cast and crew were touched and inspired by his playfulness."

Carrey continued, saying that every one of the cast and crew who worked on the movie has been blessed by "that buoyant and timeless moment" and that he considered "The Mask" as one of "the jewels" of his creative life.

Russell passed away unexpectedly at home in San Diego on 22 July. No cause of death has been revealed for the time being.

The director, screenwriter and producer had also helmed films like "The Scorpion King," "The Blob" and the Hindi-language action-adventure film, "Junglee".

He was 74.
