26 May - Karan Johar recently posted an emotional speech on social media, following news that David Dhawan is retiring from filmmaking after decades in the industry.

On 24 May, the director took to Instagram Story to express his thoughts, saying that he had a bittersweet reaction after being told by David that "Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai" will be his last film.

"Here's a filmmaker who is responsible for creating an entire genre of films... A David Dhawan film spells entertainment! What must he feel saying this when he is an institution that so many filmmakers have taken forward as inspiration!" he posted.

Karan continued, "He is loved and respected and celebrated by our fraternity. There's no opposing that! Here's too summer blockbuster with your son. David Dhawan, no 1 man always."

"Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai" marks David's first film in six years, and his fourth collaboration with son Varun Dhawan.

Often collaborating with Govinda, he has directed over 45 films including "Chal Mere Bhai," "Deewana Mastana," as well as the "No. 1" series of films like "Biwi No. 1," "Coolie No. 1," and "Hero No. 1".
