Mahjong fever hits the big screens this CNY

4 Feb - This Chinese New Year, the stakes are high as mahjong takes centre stage on the big screens!

Local mahjong-themed comedy, "LUCK MY LIFE" opens in cinemas island-wide from 17 February 2026, with special sneak preview sessions on Chinese New Year's Eve!

The film stars Golden Horse Award-nominated actor Richie Koh, alongside Tay Ping Hui ("Magik Rompak"), Cynthia Li, Yang Shi Bin ("Wet Season"), Nick Shen, popular content creator Rurusama, YES 933 DJ Tan Ting Fong and Joey Swee.

"LUCK MY LIFE" is directed by Eric Wong.

The movie follows Tian Cai who is born lucky, but his arrogance at the mahjong table ultimately costs him dearly. Confident that fortune will always be on his side, he disrespects both the game and his opponents, only to have his luck mysteriously stolen from him. If he is unable to reclaim it before the leaves of his money plant wither completely, he will be cursed with bad luck forever.

With time running out, Tian Cai embarks on a journey of redemption and self-discovery, guided by his love interest Xin Yi and four enigmatic mahjong masters - Principal Wu, Cat, Ji Ge, and Ah Shu - each with their own unique skills and philosophies. Together, they challenge his beliefs about luck, humility, and respect as he strives to regain what he has lost by defeating the elusive and legendary mahjong champion, Gu Lei.

As Singapore's first mahjong movie, the film celebrates the cultural significance of the game while exploring themes of fate, personal growth, and the distinct identity of Nanyang-style mahjong.

Fans will have the opportunity to catch an exclusive preview screening followed by a live Q&A session with the cast and director at the Reel Talk: LUCK MY LIFE event held at the GV Suntec City on 12 February at 7PM.

The Q&A will be attended by Richie Koh, Cynthia Lee, Joey Swee, and director Eric Wong among others.

Tickets, priced SGD 16 (for GV Movie Club members) and SGD 18 for the public, will be on sale from 5 February via all Golden Village sales channels.
