There will be a fresh take on the iconic "Planet of the Apes" franchise

8 May - Matt Shakman has been hired to helm a new "Planet of the Apes" movie from 20th Century Studios.

The upcoming film will be written by Josh Friedman, who penned "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" and who also worked with Shakman on "The Fantastic Four: First Steps".

It was also revealed that the upcoming movie will not be a sequel to 2024's "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes", which was also the continuation of the 2011 trilogy.

The said film made USD 397.3 million at the box office.

Shakman is also set to co-produce the film alongside Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who were producers on the previous films.
