4 Jun - Since 1 January 2026, the Singapore Film Society (SFS) has been quietly running its very own cinema - SFS Somerset - tucked inside Hall 6 of Golden Village Cineleisure at Orchard. For those who remember The Projector, which occupied the same space before its abrupt closure in August 2025, SFS Somerset is very much its spiritual successor.

What is SFS Somerset?
SFS Somerset is a 66-seat independent cinema hall programmed and run by the Singapore Film Society, an organisation that has been championing independent cinema in Singapore for over 60 years. The venue was launched to fill the void left by The Projector's closure, giving independent, arthouse and local films a permanent home in the heart of the city.

The weekly programme is personally curated by SFS Chairman Kenneth Tan, who has promised to screen every single Singapore film that passes the Infocomm Media Development Authority's approval - no exceptions.

What kind of films does it show?
Think indie, local and international films - the kind you won't easily find at mainstream multiplexes. Limited releases, Singapore premieres, and works from filmmakers who deserve a bigger screen than your laptop. Up to 8 films are screened per month, with post-film conversations and filmmaker dialogues forming a regular part of the programme.

How much are tickets?
Tickets are priced at S$15 for the general public and S$9 for SFS members - a 40% discount. Membership plans range from 1 month at S$15 to 12 months at S$119, with students, NSF and seniors 55+ receiving an additional 10% off. Members also enjoy free monthly screenings and festival discounts.
