25 Jun - After much delay and several director changes, it was finally revealed that the upcoming Rajinikanth-starrer will be directed by Ashwath Marimuthu and has been titled "Dharman".

The news was announced on 24 June via Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films, with the studio releasing the film's first look poster depicting the Tamil superstar in a blue surgical attire, complete with salt-and-pepper hair and sunglasses. He is seen smiling in an operation theatre, holding a bloodied surgical tool, with a body lying at his feet and broken glass and medical equipment scattered around him. The studio also released the tagline "Righteousness alone will triumph!" alongside the announcement.

In an interview following the news, Ashwath stated that the movie draws inspiration from Rajinikanth's "Padayappa" and Kamal Haasan's "Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu". He explained that "Dharman" will be a family-oriented thriller featuring "a larger-than-life protagonist." Simran and Raashi Khanna have joined the cast as female leads. Music composer Anirudh Ravichander, who has scored several chartbusters for Rajinikanth films, is also on board.

The news has brought a sigh of relief from fans, who saw the project being delayed time and time again due to creative differences between the two big names and the previous directors brought to the project.

The film was originally set to be helmed by Sundar C when it was announced last year, but the filmmaker exited the project due to unforeseen circumstances. Cibi Chakravarthy came in to replace him, but later withdrew as well.
