26 Feb - Despite the back-to-back box office bombs, Tom Rothman is not surrendering when it comes to his Spider-Man extended universe (also known as SSU).

The Sony Pictures' chairman and CEO recently was asked about the Spider-Man extended universe films like "Venom," "Kraven the Hunter," "Morbius," and "Madame Web," and dismissed the notion that the studio is giving up on the titles.

When asked if they will go back to it at some point, he responded, "Yes," and confirmed that they will have a fresh reboot with new people in it.

"Scarcity has value ... you got to make the audience miss you," he added.

It is noted that aside from the three "Venom" movies, none of the other SSU movies did well at the box office.

"Madame Web," starring Dakota Johnson was critically panned and made only USD 100.5 million from a USD 100 million budget. "Kraven the Hunter" did even worse at USD 62 million from a USD 130 million budget.

"Madame Web" flopped at the box office when it was released in 2024
