6 Apr - The highly-anticipated comedy sequel to "Spaceballs" now has a release date.

Amazon MGM Studios announced on 3 April that the movie, which follows the beloved 1987 parody film, will be released on 23 April 2027.

Josh Gad, who co-penned the movie, also shared the news on social media, writing, "May the April 23rd, 2027 be with you!!!", a playful nod to the informal Star Wars Day phrase, "May the 4th be with you."

The original "Spaceballs," directed by comedy legend Mel Brooks, was a sharp and beloved send-up of space films of its era - most notably "Star Wars" - following mercenary Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) as he rescues Princess Vespa from the villainous Spaceballs, who want to steal an entire planet's air supply. The film earned USD 40.3 million at the box office upon its release.

The sequel sees the return of original cast members Bill Pullman, Rick Moranis, Mel Brooks, Daphne Zuniga and George Wyner, all reprising their beloved roles. They are joined by franchise newcomers including Keke Palmer, Anthony Carrigan, and Gad himself, as well as Lewis Pullman - Bill Pullman's real-life son - who will play Starburst, the son of Lone Starr and Queen Vespa.

The upcoming film is helmed by director Josh Greenbaum from a script by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez and Gad.

As of now, there is still no information on the official title or full plot details.
