"The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" has now made USD 1 billion

8 Jun - The year 2026 has finally found its first member of the billion-dollar club in "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie".

It was reported that the animated film from Universal has now crossed the USD 1 billion mark at the box office, the first film of 2026 to do so, after making USD 428.5 million in the US and USD 571.5 million more internationally.

The movie's 2023 predecessor was also a box office success, earning more than USD 1.3 billion at the box office, which means that the Mario franchise is now the fifth biggest animated franchises after "Despicable Me," "Shrek," "Toy Story" and "Inside Out".

The sequel to the first film, "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" sees the Mario Gang embarking on an adventure into outer space to save Princess Rosalina from Bowser and his son, Bowser Jr.

Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Brie Larson, Jack Black, Glen Powell and Donald Glover are among the voice actors.
