20 Jul - Christopher Nolan proves that he is, again, the master of the box office, after his new film, "The Odyssey" made a whopping USD 264.1 million at the global box office.

The movie, which is a loose adaptation of Homer's Greek literature, made USD 124.5 million in its three-day opening in the US alone, becoming the biggest live-action film of 2026 and the highest weekend launch for an R-rated movie for Universal.

It is noted that films with the biggest opening this year are both animated features, "Toy Story 5" (USD 159 million) and "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" (USD 131 million).

"The Odyssey" has also become Nolan's highest global opening, surpassing that of "The Dark Knight Rises," which had a worldwide launch of USD 249 million.

This is a strong start for the film, which was made with a budget of USD 250 million excluding marketing costs.

The film, which is Nolan's first directorial since winning the Oscars for "Oppenheimer," stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, who faces challenges upon challenges in his journey home to Ithaca to his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland) following the Trojan War.
