"The Voice of Hind Rajab" gets Oscar nomination for Best International Feature Film

23 Jan - The Tunisian-French film, "The Voice of Hind Rajab," which tells the harrowing story of the five-year-old Palestinian girl killed by the Israel Defence Forces in 2024, is now nominated in the Best International Feature Film category at the Academy Awards.

The film, helmed by Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania, will be competing with Iran's "It Was Just an Accident," Norwegian movie, "Sentimental Value," the Spanish-French "Sirāt" and "The Secret Agent" from Germany.

Speaking about the nomination, the Mothers Against Genocide, as well as director Ben Hania expressed, "Hind Rajab's voice is the voice of every child of Palestine. We hope the Academy will not deny, gaslight or belittle the story of a Palestinian Child like the rest of the world leaders did."

The movie, which is co-produced by Bella Hadid's sister Alana Hadid's Watermelon Pictures, centres on the real audio recording of Hind Rajab's final phone call to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, after she was trapped in her family car as it came under Israeli fire, while the family was fleeing northern Gaza.

The Israel Defence Forces killed Hind, six of her family members and two paramedics coming to her rescue.

In May 2024, American rapper Macklemore released "Hind's Hall", a protest song honouring Hind Rajab.
