ROB-B-HOOD

Brought up in an impoverished family, and kicked out of school in his teens, Thongs found himself on the wrong side of the tracks despite being nimble-footed and neat-fingered. Spurned by his family and hounded by debtors, he is goaded by his greedy landlord to collaborate in harebrained heists. Together with the agile and opportunistic Octopus, the trio kidnaps the baby grandson of a tycoon. However, due to some unexpected glitches, they fail to hand him over to the triad as planned.

Watch this if you liked: "3 Men and a Baby", "Baby's Day Out"

If "Lord of the Rings" had ''one ring'' to rule them all, "Rob-B-Hood" had ''one baby'' to do just that. Baby Matthew Medvedev may just be the next big thing, having acted alongside established stars like Jackie Chan, Louis Koo and Michael Hui in this action comedy directed by Benny Chan.

"Rob-B-Hood" is about three professional thieves who take on their toughest assignment to date - to kidnap a HK$30 million baby for a group of gangsters who claim that the baby belongs to them. However, one thing leads to another and the trio find themselves facing a moral dilemma. The little hostage has managed to warm his kidnappers'' hearts, forcing them to choose between the ransom and their conscience.

Jackie Chan is at his best again in this movie which is not all action-based. Perhaps age is catching up with the 52-year-old superstar. However, together with Louis Koo, they make the perfect ''mummy'' and ''daddy'' to the baby in the movie. Add Michael Hui into the mix and you get Hong Kong''s version of ''The Three (and a half) Stooges''.

Nevertheless, the main star of the show has to be the cute and adorable baby. Aged only several months at the time of filming, this young lad certainly has a bright future, showing great potential (despite only having a limited vocabulary consisting of goo-goos and ga-gas).

Director Benny Chan, who worked with Jackie before in "New Police Story", did well in banking on the latter''s tried-and-true comic charm to enliven the movie. He manages to include enough action sequences to keep the film from becoming a full-blown comedy. Add in a couple of touching moments to induce a tear or two from the viewers and you have what you can call a ''complete package'' (one that can make you laugh, cry, and set your adrenaline pumping).

"Rob-B-Hood" may not be the best film that Jackie Chan has ever worked on but it is certainly one of his better ones. Watching this film may make you consider two things: as a parent, how difficult it is to raise a child; and as a child, how much our parents have sacrificed to raise us. Give the movie a try and after the laughs and tears, you can be sure to end up with a smile when the credits roll.
