"Apne" means our 'own flesh and blood' and it is the story of a man and his two sons. Baldev Singh Choudhary (Dharmendra) is a boxer who has won a silver medal in the 1952 Olympics. His is the only Indian to do so and this has made his country proud. Now his dream is to become India's first World Heavyweight champion. However, due to some jealousy, he is charged with doping and banned from the circuit.

Shamed, Baldev leaves the sport he loves so much. After 20 years, his hopes come alive again when his elder son, Angad (Sunny Deol), takes up the sport. However, due to the family's financial difficulties, Angad changes his mind and ventures into business instead. Baldev's dream crashes again.

His next hope is Karan (Bobby Deol), his younger son. Karan had his right hand dislocated in an accident when he was young and he plans to be a musician instead. Just when all hope is gone, Karan's hand heals miraculously and he starts training with his father. However, there is a price to pay to achieve this dream, as Karan soon discovers.

This is the story of Baldev and his two sons' journey to restore their courage, honour, and family pride. Will the boys succeed in achieving their father's dream?

The main attraction of this effort is that the Deols (Dharmendra's clan) have come together for the first time in this film. Previously, only the two brothers (Sunny and Bobby Deol) appeared together in a film a few years back, and it was directed by Sunny himself.

Dharmendra has acted in almost 500 films in his career, and he almost stopped acting after going into politics in the early 90's. So this can be considered his comeback movie and he does not disappoint his fans. He is still as good and charismatic even though he looks older now.

What I really like about this movie is the starting and the ending. The director has really done a good job in handling both. The plot is intriguing right to the end of the movie.

Overall, this is an entertaining and emotional story. It has all the ingredients that a Hindi film needs. The scenic shots of Punjab's landscape are beautifully captured, and the cast interactions and emotions are just perfect. The dialogue is well-written and the songs do not disappoint us. A must-see movie for all Hindi film fans.
