After a two-year break, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bansali returns to what he does best - directing. The film "Saawariya" (My Lover) is special because it is backed by Sony Pictures and is entirely produced by a Hollywood production.

"Saawariya" tells the story of Raj (Ranbhir Kapoor), a happy-go-lucky guy who wants to be a successful singer in a village where prostitution dominates the neighbourhood. With his charm and personality, he makes friends easily with everyone in the neighbourhood and even the famous prostitute called Gulab (Rani Mukerji) - the prettiest of the lot in the village - becomes mesmerised with Raj's charm. Gulab falls for Raj but he is determined to stay single.

Sakina (Sonam Kapoor), another young village lass, meets Raj while she was waiting in vain for her lover Imaan (Salman Khan) to return. They start to fall in love with each other, but she is still determined that Imaan will return some day. Just as Raj is about to convince Sakina that he is the right person for her, Imaan returns. What will happen to poor Raj?

After directing four successful movies, Sanjay Leela Bansali has never lost his talent in explaining simple stories with great backdrops. This goes the same for "Saawariya" as well because it has nothing new to offer. It only consists of two newcomers, two cameo appearances by big stars and movie sets that reflect Hollywood.

Well, having said all that, what's really special about this movie is that, it is a simple pure love story with a wonderful backdrop. With that, what can go wrong for Sanjay Leela Bansali?

The main strength of this movie has to be the songs and the cinematography. The movie sets were so detailed that the audience would believe that the locations actually exist. The camera angles were shot beautifully and Sanjay Leela Bansali is no doubt an artiste. There are no other words to describe the backdrop of the movie except that it is superb and marvelously shot.

Not much special effect was used as the story only focused on the two main characters. The plot was good as it was unpredictable till the end. The two newcomers - Ranbhir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor - played their roles perfectly. There are no words to describe Rani Mukerji's performance as she did an excellent job in the role of a prostitute and Salman Khan was average. The other strength of this movie was the songs that were really good and soothing.

Overall, "Saawariya" reminds us a lot of the movie "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam". Go watch it even though you feel hesitant because the songs and cinematography will definitely mesmerise you.
