This hilarious Anees Bazmee rom-com will remind us a lot of "Welcome" but with even more comedy and fun this time around.
"Singh Is Kinng" has an amazing lineup of actors who portrayed their roles more than competently. Akshay Kumar's perfect Punjabi style and comedic timing will truly delight his die-hard fans. Beautiful Katrina Kaif has shown much more improvement in her performance, especially in her dance routines. Sonu Sood, who was last seen in "Jodha Akbar", delivers like a true Punjabi. The rest of the casts did more than a fine job as well.
Plot-wise, it was quite predictable from the start but fans do get the odd surprises here and there as the movie moves along. I would say director Anees Bazmee did a decent job in the first half of the movie, although the second half was a tad too slow. Still, the fans will not complain, as the colourful characters will make it all bearable.
In terms of special effects, scenes by Allan Amin, the action director, will get the adrenalin rush going for the fans, especially during the opening chase sequence. As for cinematography, the breathtaking scenes in Egypt and the backdrop shots of Gold Coast and Brisbane in Australia were captured splendidly.
Last but not least, what is a great movie without great songs? Pritam (music director) scored a perfect soundtrack that the movie needed. The Western Bollywood remix style will be much appreciated by the fans. The title track and also "Teri Ore" will definitely stick into one's mind when leaving the cinema. Also, there is a surprise guest appearance by a very famous American rapper at the end of the movie for the remix title track, composed by RDB, the popular Punjabi rapper. Do stay after the end credits start to roll for the exclusive video!
Overall, "Singh Is Kinng" is a fantastic five-star movie with wonderful casts and beautiful songs. You may find all the elements of Hindi cinema in this film, from action to comedy, and drama to romance. This is a movie not to be missed, especially if you are a Punjabi and a Bollywood fan. I'm still buzzing from the soundtrack!Cinema Online, 23 September 2008
