Although seemingly simple on the surface, making a comedy work is itself a challenge. Nail it once with complete originality and you'll become a big hit. Wobble a little and you'll send the whole room in awkward silence, before getting yourself ushered to the storeroom full of stale cheese.

With the concept of 'raunchy is key to glee' having yet to cease, now comes "The Babymakers"- an adult comedy directed by Jay Chandrasekhar about a man named Tommy (Paul Schneider) and his wife, Audrey (Olivia Munn) striving to have a baby after three years of marriage. Later, the plot unfolds to Tommy being the one with the problems, due to his weak sperm.

The turning point of the story comes when Tommy, who has a history of donating his good sperm to the sperm bank just so he could afford Audrey's wedding ring, decides to get the one and only tube that's left at the centre. Obviously, it's no easy task and no one's being kind to him. Trapped between a matter of newborn life and death by a woman's scorn, Tommy and his best buds come up with a robbery plan - only, this one's a sperm-bank version of Roger Donaldson's "The Bank Job".

While some moments might place the viewers in a fit of snickers, a long list of used lewd and racist, stereotypical lines uttered by the casts only serve to entice the awkward sound of crickets. It's a sad case of baby-making gone wrong, and a waste for a pretty good actress like Munn who happens to be the film's saving grace and wowed us in "Magic Mike".

If there's one thing the reviewer learns from "The Babymakers", is that you know something is not quite right when a comedy tickles your gullet instead of funny bones - particularly, when it involves a scene of a man slipping on a floor full of semen.
