Watch this if you liked: "Despicable Me"

Gru and his much-loved Minions are back for the sequel of "Despicable Me". In this film, Gru proves that superpowers are not needed to save the world. All you need are some fancy gadgets with a whole lot of mini yellow creatures. The family-friendly animation is packed with the usual Minion antics as well as unexpected romance.

The story picks up where it previously left off, with Gru, who has put his villain days behind him. He is now a devoted father and contender to win the Best Father of the Year Award. In the previous film, the solemn-looking guy who hated everything is now a happier person with his three adopted daughters around.

The sequel also introduces new characters, both good and evil. Firstly there is the Anti-Villain League (AVL), which consists of Silas Ramsbottom (voiced by Steve Coogan), the hard-headed leader of AVL and Lucy Wilde (voiced by Kristen Wiig) an agent for AVL who is an interesting character paired with an eccentric sense of humour. The two recruit Gru to help agent Wilde bring down the new villain's evil schemes.

Apart from the human characters, the Minions played a much bigger role compared to the previous film. The gibberish speaking munchkins are the essence of the film; without them there is no need for another "Despicable Me". This time around you will be in for a surprise as the Minions turn evil under the hands of the new villain.

As a 3D movie, the effects were nothing to shout about as it was minimal to say the least.

The film has its bits of comedic moments but might be a little immature for your liking. However, the girls are always adorable and the blissful family moments help us remember the heart-warming elements from the previous film. A great family movie to watch as the young-uns will surely enjoy it. Remember to stay back for the credits as there is a short for the upcoming Minions spin-off will leave you excited.
