The Good, the Bad and the Untold:
An untold back story of the fearsome mythical creature, Dracula and how he transformed from a mere ruler, husband and father to a blood-thirsty vampire. Considering that the film is the feature film debut for director Gary Shore, it is pretty well made where the plot, visual and sound effects are concerned. Lead actor, Luke Evans does a good job portraying Dracula, however, instead of being the scary blood-sucking monster that everybody has feared since young, the Dracula in this film is portrayed as an anti-hero. There is some similarity to the box office hit film, "Maleficent" where the film tries to convey the message that there is always a reason behind the wrongdoings of a villain, well in this case, it's the famous vampire, Dracula. Despite the fact that this film is supposed to be about a blood-sucking vampire, not much blood is actually shed and seen in this film. Also, the film is not as gory and disturbing as one may expect since Vlad the Impaler is historically known for cruelly impaling each of his enemies. Overall, the film is worthy of the 'blockbuster' more than the 'bloodsucker' status.
Look Out For:
The epic scene where Vlad summons a colony of bats and attacks the Turkish armies as it is a visual feast!
Trivia:
Sam Worthington was originally slated for the role of Vlad before being replaced with Luke Evans. Also, Abbie Cornish was offered the lead female role but she rejected it.
Best Watched With:
Family, friends, lovers and those who are curious about the origin and back story of the famous mythical vampire, Dracula.
