The Monk Comes Down The Mountain

Based on the best-selling novel "A Monk Comes Down the Mountain" (Dao Shi Xia Shan) by Xu Haofeng. A young monk is forced to leave his monastery. In order to survive in the outside world, he has to rely on his extraordinary martial arts skills while at the same time he searches for a mentor. He then encounters a Kung Fu master who possesses the Book of Secrets - a book which contains the lost art of the deadly Ape Strike Kung Fu technique. The book is highly desired by a pair of selfish father and son who are willing to do anything, including killing the innocent, to obtain it. The young monk must now protect the book and his master at all costs as he engages in a deadly battle with the antagonists.

The Good, the Bad and the Deeper Meaning:

• Undoubtedly, the film has some pretty cool Kung Fu moves and action sequence much like any other martial arts film you can find, but sadly the plot is too weak and uninteresting.

• The relationships between the characters are not relatable and there's very little character development.

• The saving grace of the film is its spectacular and stylistic visuals and creative action sequence.

• The film has a few hints of homosexuality and adultery in a very odd and comedic way.
