The Good, the Bad and the Love Affairs:

• Visually stunning but the film is a lacklustre, uninspiring and dull retelling of a great classic.

• The film is supposed to be passionate and romantic but it is sort of lacking in those points.

• Mia Wasikowska is a great actress but she is terribly miscast as Emma Bovary who is supposed to be sensual, ambitious and delicate. Wasikowska projects none of those qualities.

• Similarly, Ezra Miller is a bit unsuited for his role as Leon Dupuis for being too young to be the object of affection for Emma Bovary.

• The greatest asset to the film lies in its visual appearance like the French setting, gorgeous costumes, remarkable set designs and creative cinematography.

Trivia:

• This is the fifth time Mia Wasikowska has acted in a period drama set in the 19th century.
