The Good, the Bad and the Relationship Commitment: When you first see the poster, movie stills or the trailer of "At Cafe 6", you would notice that it gives off almost the same vibe as other huge Taiwanese hits like "You Are the Apple of My Eye", "Cafe Waiting Love" and "Our Times" - in fact, the movie is pretty much a mixture of all the movies mentioned.
"At Cafe 6" talks about love, growing up, friendship, and school life - pretty much the same old recipe that we see in other Taiwanese rom-com movies, but what really sets this movie apart from the generic formula is that it explores more on the future planning and life decisions aspect of it.
The story is basically about four school friends who struggle to commit to their relationship after going their separate ways, and ponder about what to do after graduation.
The movie is certainly nostalgic as it will definitely recall some of your old and precious high school memories, and it will hit you even harder if you're an Asian as the relatable points are more apparent!
The first half of the movie is simple, sweet and funny. It's like strolling and skipping in a beautiful garden, but the second half of it is so melodramatic, it's like you're on a feel train to cry-land.
Throughout the story, the movie also highlights the difference in mentality growth between men and women, and how different places and environment can affect ones' growth as well.
All of the new actors and actresses, as well as the veteran cast, do justice to their roles. Their acting couldn't be any more convincing and natural, and it is so fun seeing the beautiful chemistry between the cast.
Trivia: • The movie was adapted from a book of the same name, which was voted to be the most anticipated book-to-film adaptation in 2014.
