Mon Mon Mon Monsters

Straight-A high school student Lin Shu-wei is constantly picked on and bullied by Ren-Hao and his toadies, Guo-Feng and Wei-Zhu. One day, the trio of bad boys frame Lin for stealing the class money. Lin manages to prove his innocence; however his passive teacher, Ms Li tells Lin to repent for his actions anyway by assigning him to community service with Ren-Hao and the others. Their community service involves serving meals to seniors, but Ren-Hao and his cronies see it as an opportunity to raise hell instead and they invite Lin for the ride. They newly formed gang abuses the hapless seniors and even go so far as to try to rob a war veteran. But instead of the gold they expected, the group of teenagers instead stumble upon a group of monsters. The monsters give chase, but one of them gets hit by a car in the process. The boys bring her to their secret hangout where things quickly spiral into violence and outright torture - for the monster.

The Good, the Bad and the Vengeful Pirate:

• Unlike Giddens Ko's debut hit rom com, this movie explores a darker theme and highlights everyday social issues faced by the world.

• The movie is violent and gory, though it also consists of some comedy. But it's very true to life as it deals with the nature and source of violence and bullying as well as social hierarchy.

• The movie features a dazzling visual style, a number of standout set pieces and a compelling performance from a group of mostly newcomer cast.

Trivia:

• The movie is inspired by the Swedish drama "Evil" directed by Mikael Hafstrom.
